چکیده
In this study, three 1.2-L aerobic granular sludge sequencing batch reactors (AGS-SBRs) were used to cultivate nitrifying and nitrifying-denitrifying granules (w/supplemental carbon) investigate sidestream treatment of synthetic-centrate real-centrate samples from Ashbridges Bay Treatment Plant (ABTP) in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Results showed that although the cultivation distinct was not observed reactors, volume index (SVI30) values achieved while treating real synthetic centrate 72 ± 12 mL/g 59 11 (after day 14), respectively. Ammonia-nitrogen (NH3-N) removal SBRs 93 19% 94 16% for centrate, Granules with a round structure successfully formed SBR, resulting an SVI30 52 23 mL/g. NH3-N, chemical oxygen demand (COD) phosphorus (P) SBR 92 9%, 5%, 81 14% (7th 114th day), respectively low nitrite (NO2-N) nitrate (NO3-N) concentration effluent indicating simultaneous nitrification-denitrification (SND) activity. High nutrient efficiencies via nitrification SND pathways shows AGS technology is viable process sidestreams generated WWTP.

Acclimated Nitrifying Sludge Immobilized in Polymer Pellets
Nitrification of ammonia (NH4) is a critical component for improved systems of animal wastewater treatment. One of the most effective processes uses nitrifying microorganisms encapsulated in polymer resins. It is used in Japan in municipal wastewater treatment plants for higher nitrification rates, shorter hydraulic retention times (HRT), and lower aeration treatment cost. We evaluated whether ...
متن کاملBiotransformation of estrogens in nitrifying activated sludge under aerobic and alternating anoxic/aerobic conditions.
Natural and synthetic estrogens present in municipal wastewater can be biodegraded during treatment, particularly in activated sludge. The objective was to assess the extent of transformation of 17-beta-estradiol (E2) and 17-alpha-ethinylestradiol (EE2) by nitrifying activated sludge and evaluate potential relationships between availability of oxygen, nitrification rate, and estrogen removal. F...

This advanced nutrient removal process can reduce footprint up to 75% and energy up to 50% when compared to conventional activated sludge systems. One of the defining characteristics of the granule is rapid settling which in turn allows for an increase in the biomass concentration. The granules are comprised of true biomass and do not require carriers. The layered microbial community that forms...
متن کاملTextile wastewater treatment: aerobic granular sludge vs activated sludge systems.
Textile effluents are characterised by high content of recalcitrant compounds and are often discharged (together with municipal wastewater to increase their treatability) into centralized wastewater treatment plants with a complex treatment scheme. This paper reports the results achieved adopting a granular sludge system (sequencing batch biofilter granular reactor - SBBGR) to treat mixed munic...
متن کاملAerobic granular sludge
In recent years, a significant part of research on wastewater treatment has focussed on development of compact systems. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) can be designed compact when biomass is maintained in the system without the use of conventional settling tanks as in flocculated activated sludge systems. Examples are developments in the field of Membrane BioReactors, Biological Aerated Fil...
